It doesn’t seem that long ago when I was coaxing seniors at a retirement home outside to plant a tree for Earth Day…that was almost 30 years ago when I became aware of the importance for change. Just a few years ago the 3 R’s were Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. And now, we’ve added in Replenish and Restore…great!! However, although we have made great strides in our efforts to better our environment and look to minimize our ‘carbon footprint’ there is more we can do and my hope is that people will not only celebrate Earth Day, but also embrace this thinking all year and always. Don’t just go out once a year and pick up some garbage, which is good, but make the conscience effort to minimize your own garbage every day. In addition, use your voice at work, home, school and out and about to educate others on the importance of embracing the 5 R’s. Oh, and one more thing…take a look around and enjoy the beauty…it’s worth it.
